GIVE YOUR PARTNER THE SUPPORT SHE NEEDS

Your partner may be doing the heavy lifting (or carrying) for the next nine months, but she'll need a lot of support from you, too.

But how do you support her?

Through our experience we have found many  partners feel an unexpected disconnect during pregnancy. You’re not feeling the effects of hormones and you miss out on baby kicks and wriggles. Although you’re both excited, you’re experiencing it in very different ways.

You may be working away from home or putting in extra hours so you can take time off when baby arrives.

It’s normal to find it difficult to  relate to the new feelings and emotional changes your partner is going through during pregnancy, but you still want the best for her.

What she really wants

Think of it this way. You know how you love sharing what about what happened at work with your partner but at some stage you notice her eyes glazing over? You know she’s interested but you’ve pushed past her edge of empathy and understanding, either because you’ve gone into too much detail or you’ve entered unknown territory.

The same conversation would play out completely differently with your team,  the people who are immersed in it and who can relate.

It’s the same with pregnancy. It’s not that you don’t care, or that you don’t want to know. But it’s difficult to have a 3 hour conversation about nausea. You’re a fixer. What can you do to stop it? What can you buy to prevent it? What can you suggest to assist it?

How you can help

The reality is that she’s not the only woman hugging the toilet bowl daily or sending you for snacks at midnight. More than anything, she just wants to talk to anyone and everyone who just gets it. And the reality is that you don’t. Not in the way she needs you to anyway.

Holding her hair back while she vomits, whispering words of comfort in her ear and providing the right snacks at the right time are essential but what she really needs is validation and commiseration and she can only get that from other pregnant women.

Help her find her people

The best way you could support her right now is by showing her that you get it. You get that she needs other women to talk to. You get that the support you can offer right now is limited. You get that she wants to talk about pregnancy symptoms all day (and most of the night).

And you love her for being so totally immersed in it.

Show her you understand

A group of women due in the same month

The Due Date Club is a safe and private online community of pregnant women learning about the many miracles that are occurring every day as  pregnancy progresses and how they feel.

A group of women excited about being pregnant and  wanting to do everything right. All of them feeling slightly overwhelmed an anxious, but comforted knowing they are not alone. Hearing that everyone is experiencing the same strange sensations and uncomfortable symptoms somehow normalises it and puts everything into context.

While a fear of the unknown is completely normal, worrying about things going wrong is futile if you don't understand what it feels like when they're going right.

Collaborative Learning

In the Due Date Club we understand that the information  is time sensitive and constantly changing, because the nature of pregnancy is dynamic. So, the things you need to know at 6 weeks are different to what you need to know at 12 weeks or 40 weeks.  Every week brings new changes, new sensations and new concerns. She’ll sigh in relief when the nausea stops but wake up the next day with heartburn or backache or leg cramps. And there’ll be someone else who feels exactly the same way plus a host of reassuring resources.

Guide To Common Pregnancy Discomforts

Pregnancy symptoms can be really worrying when you're just not sure. I've put together a 12 page reference guide so that each time you feel something new, strange and scary you can whip it out and check. Everything from Breast Changes to Varicose Veins is included as well as What You Can do to Avoid Them and Where to Get Help.

Imagine her response when you hand her something that shows how much you care.

PS: this guide is helpful for all trimesters so that she won’t spend all her time worrying

PPS: Print it out and highlight the symptoms you know she has been struggling with.

Dedicated Conversation Space

The Due Date Club is like having her favourite coffee shop open 24/7 and only pregnant people and birth professionals are allowed in.

Actually, it looks and feels like a Facebook group but without the ads, hates speech, trolls, and creepy lurkers! It’s a woman only space but that doesn’t mean you won’t get the benefit.

While the majority of the content is focused on your partner, everything you need to know is included. Your first and most important step in supporting her is making sure that she is held and supported by other women.

You won’t be dragged off to a weekend birth preparation class or forced to watch videos of women giving birth. The support you’ll both receive is ongoing. It’s  specific to birthing woman and birthing partner needs.  As a member,  she has ongoing access and you get to decide your level of involvement.

The Due Date Club is moderated and managed by medical and allied  birth professionals and all Premium Members have access to:

  •  Weekly live “Ask the Midwife” calls and guest expert interviews
  •  Weekly live prenatal yoga classes (plus access to yoga library)
  •  Ongoing access to The Essential Guide to Hospital Birth masterclass series
  •  Ongoing access to the Hypnobirthing Academy – brain training for birth
  •  Free pass to the Digital download library packed with cheat sheets, pocket guides and to do lists.
  •  The Due Date Club app for private and group chat with members and hosts.

This is the basis of the life long friendships that are formed through shared experience. The Due Date Club enables you to instantly connect and chat with women who are asking the same questions and available 24/7 to talk about pregnancy, birth and babies.

Online Learning Opportunities

You probably won’t want to do all of these courses, but we can guarantee that your wife/partner will.

Each one of them will build on her level of confidence and trust in her body and will signpost her to the bits where you need to get involved along with how, when and why. There’s no room for guesswork when it comes to supporting your partner and you’re not expected to just know what to do. We guide you every step of the way.

There are 3 foundational online on demand courses:

  1. The Midwife Guide to Pregnancy
  2. The Midwife Guide to Hospital Birth
  3. The Midwife Guide to Pain Management.

These courses cover the subjects that are typically covered in traditional birth classes and form the foundation for all birth preparation.

Experiential Workshops

These courses create opportunities for personal learning that go beyond sharing facts and lists.

These classes recognise that birth is personal and guide your partner to access inner knowing through art, writing and free flowing discussions. These are the fun, creative interactive courses that facilitate learning and exploration.

  1. Create your Birth Vision Board
  2. Hypnobirthing Brain Training

These courses  start on a specific date and include live (online) sessions, creative process workshops and sequential learning. She will love them (and love you for sharing them with her)

Here's Something Else you May Not Realise

In a normal pregnancy, you will see your Doctor an average of 12 times in 40 weeks. Even if every appointment is one hour (and you know that the average is 15 minutes, right? ) you will still only spend 12 hours of face-to-face time with your main care provider. Most of the time you will walk away with more questions than answers and nobody to debrief the dissapointment.

The Due Date Club is here for you between appointments

You don’t want to spend precious time worrying and anxious.
Pregnancy is meant to be celebrated and enjoyed.

Every milestone, all the highs and even the low points are important and will be remembered.

In The Due Date Club we make them memorable TOGETHER!

What makes The Due Date Club different?

Live interaction and trusted recommendations.
I've been in the business for 30 years and I have a extensive network of reputable and credible user- approved service providers who are committed to serving Due Date Club members with excellence. The Due Date Club is a living directory rather than a list. Join live events to meet and interact with birth professionals and industry experts.

Founded and led by The Virtual Midwife, Karen Wilmot, the Due Date Club is the result of years of working online and in person with women during pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period as a midwife, prenatal yoga instructor, hypnobirthing practitioner and childbirth educator.

It drives me crazy that birth preparation classes only start at 28 weeks and most doctors advise you not to get excited until you get past 12 weeks. The truth is that from the moment you see that little blue line YOU ARE PREGNANT. It's only natural that you want to be connected with other pregnant women. You are infused with curiosity and a desire to do everything you can to nurture and protect your baby. Thats what you get in The Due Date Club

Some of the amazing benefits of being part of The Due Date Club

This is truly the secret sauce of The Due Date Club…

The Due Date Club is online virtual, in your phone or on your computer, accessible and available 24/7 wherever you are. Listen on the go, or binge watch video tutorials like a netflix series. Find members in your area and women around the world who share your excitement, joy and concerns. The Due Date Club is a safe and private online space to explore the choices and options available when you’re pregnant.

The moment you get a positive pregnancy test! While everyone tells you not to do anything until the end of the first trimester – that’s exactly when you need support so that you know what to do if you experience spotting or cramping. You know that saying ‘start as you mean to go on”? At The Due Date Club we actively encourage you to start with the right information and to find your support network before the overwhelm and fear sets in.

You can still join! Whether you are all last minute dot com or wanting to cram as much info and support into a short space of time, you will find what you need in The Due Date Club.   You will have access to all the courses as well as our extensive library of resources and hot pregnancy topics. You may even have time to sneak in some yoga classes and enjoy some live Ask The Midwife sessions to get straight to what you need. It’s never too late to join. See you there!

You don’t want to be alone if you lose your baby. Despite the immense sadness and loss, you will have questions and concerns about what to do next and if it will impact future pregnancy.  You will be surrounded with love and support and Midwife Karen and her team will guide your healing process by answering your questions, sharing essential resources and referring you to the right team for follow up care and physical recovery. You can choose to stay in a group to be supported by others who have shared similar loss or place your subscription on hold until you are ready to join in subsequent pregnancy.

Nope. Membership is monthly and you can cancel at any time. Of course we want you to stay so we can watch your amazing transformation and  keep you updated with all the new information as each week brings new learning opportunities.  We make sure that you are plugged into the right resources so that you can make healthy choices for you and your baby by sharing the right Information at the right time.

Absolutely! In fact being part of a larger community means you will have the opportunity to meet other women with similar risk profile. Knowing you’re not alone and having someone who understands your challenges somehow normalises it and makes it easier to navigate the challenges you may face together.

Yes! The information, courses and live events in The Due Date Club provide a balanced view of all your options and methods to optimise your health and well being during pregnancy.  The focus is on a positive birth experience rather than a specific way of giving birth.

It can be hard to sink into your body and really feel and enjoy being pregnant when the journey to becoming pregnant has been long, lonely and emotionally (and financially) draining. You’ve spent so much time worrying and waiting. Come on in and surround yourself with women who have been there. Soak up the love and oxytocin. Immerse yourself in the experience. You don’t want to spend precious time worrying and anxious. Pregnancy is meant to be celebrated and enjoyed.

Why I started The Due Date Club

Because I always knew there was something missing from my courses. They are packed with a ton of content but as much as online and on demand is a great way to learn, it lacks the feedback and the ability to ask questions.

The Due Date Club enables  consistent and collaborative learning. Dive into a module and then pop out and ask a question before moving on to the next section. Learn something new and then share it with others in the activity feed.

Most of your learning happens in conversation. I also know that the current technocratic, policy based system does not support or encourage you to be actively involved in decisions that directly influence your health and the health of your baby.

This program seeks to restore the balance and equip you with the skills and confidence to be an active participant in this major life event, understanding that pregnancy and birth have a lifelong impact and are bound to sexuality, fertility and the ability to parent with confidence.
